As part of the Jonathan Government's PG program on agrarian reform, a cassava processing plant with an annual output of 72,000 tonnes of high-quality cassava flour will be established in the state of Abakibom, Nigeria. The country's agricultural farm development minister, AkinwumiAdesina, claimed that the proposed cassava processing plant is expected to use 300,000 tonnes of cassava roots per year, in a project to launch the "Rich Cassava Vitamin A" program. "The cassava processing plant in Aqabbom will be the main processing plant for high quality cassava flour in Nigeria," he said.
The Minister noted that Nigeria is currently the world's largest producer of cassava, while the state of Aqabbom has the largest cassava production. So the federal government decided to maintain the lead, continue to lead the world's largest cassava processing countries. "We want cassava processed into high-quality tapioca, which can replace some of the imported wheat, and we have land, cheap labor, plenty of sunshine, and the corresponding consumer population," he said, noting that Nigeria should not import grain, We should be food exporters, and in any case I will not be the Minister of Grain Imports, because it is not my job.
Growing cassava, in addition to improving people's health, can also increase employment, improve income and keep families out of poverty, the governor of the state said. It is understood that the Nigerian government is working to develop the scale of production of cassava, the development of road, energy, water and service terminals of the supply chain. Nigeria is currently the world's largest producer of cassava, with an annual output of about 40 million tonnes. Nigeria needs to improve its processing capacity to meet the growing global market demand.
